Join us for a spring excursion day trip to Moorhead, MN, on June 9th for an afternoon on the farm with Noreen Thomas of Doubting Thomas Farms. Noreen has been trailblazing in organic local farming, often focusing on heritage varieties that have caught the attention of renowned chefs, including Dan Barber of Blue Hill at Stone Barn, who sources grains from her, as well as Molly Yeh of the Food Network, and additional James Beard award winning chefs. We will begin the day with a walking tour of the farm, just north of Moorhead, MN (roughly 3.5 hours west of MSP) to learn how it is integrated with the local ecosystem and natural environment. You'll see various fauna and flora, including chickens, test plots for new perennial varieties, and foraging for edible plants. We will then break for lunch provided by Heart and Soul food truck, a nonprofit focusing on local foods; the meal will be gluten-friendly (not vegan). Heart and Soul does pop-up restaurants in low-income areas with a community-supported pay-as-you-go model. We will also hear from leaders of Farm in the Dell, who support folks with special needs and provides job training, fulfills a local CSA, and provides food for pop-up restaurants. You will also have a chance to purchase goods from local vendors, including fresh deep yellow yolked eggs, artisan loaves of bread made from wheat from the farm you are touring, micro greens, etc.. Bring a water bottle, walking shoes, hats, sunscreen, and a willingness to see what the region has to offer for food, people and deep connections to the land. Follow along to peek at the farm on social media too!
The Farm Tour (including lunch) is $25; click here to register; only 60 spots available!
